Heating Measures

Professional Gas Boiler & Insulation Installers

Having dedicated, working heating measures will help to keep your home comfortably warm, without overheating and wasting energy. By having an effective boiler, wall and roof insulation or using renewable energy, you can also save vast amounts of money on your bills and lower your carbon emissions.

It’s because of this that the UK Government offer boiler replacement and insulation grants through the ECO scheme – eligible homeowners can claim grants for the work, ensuring that them saving money does not have to cost them money.

And this is where we can help. Here at CT Eco and Heating, we are professional gas boiler and insulation installers who have helped many people to improve their energy efficiency. Whether through the ECO scheme or not, we can say with some confidence that upgrading your boiler and insulation will help you to save on your energy bills.

What Heating Measures Can I Take?

Saving energy and money using cavity wall insulation and gas boiler replacements.

Replacing your gas boiler with a newer, more energy efficient boiler will help you to use less energy thus saving on your bills. Modern boilers are more efficient for several reasons, with their main advantage being that they are condensing – this means that they recover more heat from the exhaust flue gas and uses it to heat the central heating water, thus making it more efficient.

Cavity Wall Insulation

Cavity wall insulation is a quick, hassle-free way of insulating the home – for buildings that have cavity walls (generally homes that were constructed after 1920), they are an excellent way to save money and generate free energy.

Insulation of cavity walls can dramatically improve your home’s heat retention – almost HALF of a property’s heat can escape through cavity walls, so you can imagine what a significant saving you’ll make if you’re able to retain most of that.

Under the ECO4 grant, cavity wall insulation and gas boilers come as a dual measure – so it’s well worth your while in investigating whether you are eligible.

Loft & Solid Wall Insulation

If your home was constructed before the 1920s, your external walls will likely be ‘solid’ walls, rather than cavity walls that are present in more modern homes. Insulating solid walls is a different process and can be more expensive – but it also leads to higher savings than cavity wall insulation.

General loft insulation is a quick and simple process – involving a blanket of insulation material that’s laid down to create a barrier between the main portion of the property and the loft (essentially trapping the heat).

However, if you’re considering a loft conversion, it’s important to consider the different type of insulation that is required. When converted into a room, a roof space requires a different type of insulation that will fit in the gaps between the joists and behind the new walls that comprise the new room. Without this insulation, the loft will experience vast temperature changes in summer and winter and in addition, the rest of the house will suffer from heat loss too, further increasing energy bills.

Renewables

Switching to a renewable energy source such as an Air Source heat pump accompanied by solar panels can further help to cut down on your energy bills. They do not need to burn fossil fuels and thus is the best way to lower your home’s carbon footprint. Changing to renewables can be done easily, it often won’t mean many (if any) changes to your current electrical installations – just a simple change of supplier.

ECO4 Grants – What Are They?

First introduced in 2013, the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) is a UK Government energy efficiency scheme that is designed to reduce carbon emissions and tackle fuel poverty.

Over the last decade, the scheme has been amended a number of times – the recent ‘ECO3’ scheme was closed on the 31st March 2022 and was replaced by ECO4 on the 27th July. Covering a 4-year period until 31st March 2026, the main objective of ECO4 is to provide funding to improve the least energy-efficient housing stock occupied by low income and vulnerable households. This may include new boilers, loft insulation, wall insulation and high retention electric storage heaters for eligible householders.

How to get ECO grant funding?

You can get ECO funding by applying online with a registered installer. Applying for a grant is a simple process – you will be asked a few questions to see if your property meets the scheme eligibility criteria. Grants are to help with the cost of insulation, heating and energy efficiency measures – you will usually get an immediate indication regarding your eligibility.
